A diffuser stem increases airflow, reduces splash, accelerates cooling and decreases noise.

This is due to the output of the stem featuring diffusion holes instead of a standard straight cut.

These cool and filter the smoke by smashing it into smaller and less-dense particles so that their concentration is more consistent with the clean air particles entering or already residing in the bong.
